Covington ‘Cupp’ Cormier Jr.
You made me happy
This you can bet
You stood right beside me, yeah
And I won’t forget
And I really love you
You should know
I want to make sure I’m right, y’all
Before I let go

Born April 14, 1972, to Norma and Covington, Sr., in Jennings, Covington was a 1990 Jennings High School graduate. He made a name for himself on the JHS court. Kids in the area begged their parents to bring them to watch him play. Covington followed his passion on the court by enrolling at Clarendon College. Upon completion at Clarendon; Covington attended Connecticut and in his senior year he finished at Utah State, where he thrived on the court. After graduating with an applied science degree in human development, family studies, and related services and a few years of taking care of his oldest daughter, Suzanne. Covington decided careerwise, playing basketball was still his thing and for seven years he spent time in Norway, Bosnia, Croatia, Poland and Mexico. His love for basketball helped him develop his love for people which is what introduced him to real estate and the insurance industry. When he moved to Dallas permanently in 2005, he spent the next 13 years in both industries, winning trips to places like Hawaii for all his hard work. Covington wasn’t only just good at basketball. In his life he navigated black diamonds and some of the hardest slopes around, totally by accident! From Colorado, Canada, Japan, and even to the Swiss Alps, he knew how to manage a snowboard. His love for traveling never stopped as he most recently returned from Dubai in April of 2018. He has also traveled to Aruba, Brazil, Tokyo and many more. Covington was truly an avid traveler. In 2016, Covington decided to start his own company, All Things Lawn LLC. His most recent career venture was roofing and construction. Outside of work, he had a ritual. If he wasn’t out riding on his bike you could find him in someone’s gym Saturday morning hooping. The location never mattered; it was all about the friends he made over the years and the game he loved. During the week he kept it causal. Wednesday you could find him with a cigar or hookah in hand at the Hideaway, and his Sunday Fundays were spent at Union Park. Covington’s love for his children, family, dogs and food was known by all.
He leaves behind to cherish his life his mother and father, Covington Senior and Norma (Edward); his children, Suzanne Cormier, India Hansen and Madison Cormier; sisters, Renise Cormier, Tanisha Cormier and Kiandra Rideaux (Mario); and brothers, Dexter Cormier and Cornelius Cormier. Also cherishing his memories are a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his son, Covington Taijai Cormier; grandmothers, Stella Ethridge and Sylvia Cormier; grandfather, Peter Hickerson; aunts, Veola “Sister” Rubin and Rita Prudhomme; and uncles, Robert Lee Coleman, Cleveland Cormier, Frederick Prudhomme and Arthur Ethridge.
