Laverne was born June 26, 1932, in Kilgore, Texas, to Lawrence and Lillian Hill Hutson. During her childhood, Shell Oil Company transferred her father to Basile. She grew up in Basile and was a member of and was baptized in Basile First Baptist Church. After graduating from Basile High School she worked as a telephone operator in Victoria, Texas, until she returned to Louisiana to marry Glenn Putnam, the love of her life. They were married for 44 years and had two daughters.
She was well-known for her kindhearted spirit and her sweet smile. She always cared so much for others. Laverne loved to cook, bake and spend time with her family and friends. She also loved to entertain friends and family with delicious meals and wonderful homemade cakes, pies, cookies and cinnamon rolls, and often overnight lodging. Many said they would put their knee under her table anytime. She definitely had the gift of hospitality, but the greatest gift of all was her love. She loved everyone, especially her family.
Since her marriage in 1953, she had been a member of the Elton United Methodist Church. She was also an active member of the Order of Eastern Star Holly Chapter No. 90, serving at both local and state levels.
She is survived by her two daughters, Glynn Ellen Putnam of Monroe and Betty Jo Aguillard and husband Dana of Elton; two grandsons, Wesley Ryan Aguillard and wife Kimberly of Pineville and Jeffrey Thomas Aguillard and wife Jessica of Elton; four great-grandchildren, Ebby, Eryn, Elliott (Trapper) and Calista (Callie) Aguillard; one sister, Neoma Aston; one sister-in-law, Lonnie Hutson; one brother-in-law, Winsor Stockwell; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Aubrey Glenn Putnam; parents, Lawrence and Lillian Hutson; great-grandchild, Baby Aguillard; sisters, Collene Stockwell and Geraldine Steinmetz; and one brother, Gene Hutson.
The family would like to express thanks and appreciation to the doctors, nurses and staff that have cared for her throughout her life. They would also like to give a special thanks to the Heart of Hospice nurses and staff and to her caring sitter, Linda.
