Was special counsel needed for that?

It’s often been observed that special counsel Robert Mueller has yet to charge anyone with a crime involving Trump-Russia collusion.

The biggest of Mueller’s indictments, that of one-time Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort, has no connection at all to collusion.

Mueller has revealed why he believes the Manafort prosecution is related to the 2016 Trump campaign. It’s a small part, a very small part, of the overall charges against Manafort. And it has nothing to do with any actions by the candidate — now the president — himself.

The Deputy for the Day auction item is presented by the Jeff Davis Sheriff’s Office (JDSO) and includes a firstclass tour of the sheriff’s office and other municipal offices.

Hebert honored during commemorative mass

On Sunday, July 8, 2018, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Jennings, a commemorative mass was held in honor of the memory of Fr. Eugene John Hebert by Fr. Jude Fernando. The Hebert family donated a statue of St. Joseph holding the infant Jesus to the church in his honor. Hebert was a native of Jennings and spent most of his ordained ministry as a Jesuit missionary in Sri Lanka. He along with his Tamil driver Betram Francis disappeared on Aug. 15, 1990, as the Sri Lankan civil war was raging.

SOWELA students receive silver in Skills competition

Sky McMillian and David Sonnier, SOWELA Technical Community College Graphic Art students, won Silver in Television (Video) Production in the recent SkillsUSA Championships. This event, by invitation only, was for first place state medalists in 100 competition areas for career and technical students. It is the largest skill competition in the world.

Smart ways to keep kids safe

Children need only a few seconds to wander away from their parents.

Amusement parks, beaches, tourist attractions, concerts, and local fairs attract families each year. Such outings can be exciting and enjoyable excursions, but panic sets in immediately when parents lose track of their children. It takes mere seconds for curious children to wander off, and as the minutes tick by and kids don’t return, parents may be overcome with anxiety.

PLANT ANNOUNCES $2.5M EXPANSION

BATON ROUGE (AP) — An industrial coatings facility in Louisiana says it plans to invest $2.5 million to expand.

Gov. John Bel Edwards and Cortec LLC executive Larry Chauvin on Thursday announced the project for its Port Allen facility. The company manufactures and services compact valves, chokes and other specialty equipment for the global oil and gas industry. The expansion will create four new direct jobs while retaining 42 existing jobs, increasing the Houma-based company’s total payroll to more than $3.3 million.

 

GULF OF MEXICO OIL LEASE SALE AUGUST

NEW ORLEANS (AP) — The federal government’s Aug. 15 oil and gas lease sale in the Gulf of Mexico will offer slightly more acreage than officials originally announced.

A news release Thursday said the government’s final notice of sale is offering 78 million acres (31.6 million hectares). That’s about 700,000 acres (280,000 hectares) more than described in March.

This is the third sale offering all unleased acreage in the Gulf. The first two brought leases on six-tenths of a percent and one percent of the available acreage.
