Broussard

Larkie and Brooks Broussard of Lake Arthur announce the birth of their daughter, Brynlie Claire Broussard, born Dec. 26, 2018.

She weighed eight pounds and five ounces and measured 20 inches at birth.

Older siblings include Lillian and Lane Broussard of Lake Arthur.

Maternal grandparents include Teresa Rogers of Lake Arthur and Glenn Hebert of Egan. Paternal grandparents include Lark Dale and Catherine Broussard of Lake Arthur.

Godparents are Blaire Lejeune and Kameron Duhon, both of Lake Arthur.

Hebert finishes semester with 4.0 GPA

Cole Hebert, son of Stephen Hebert (formerly of Pine Island/Hathaway) recently completed his first semester at William and Mary, where he attained a 4.0 GPA, majoring in math and physics.

When Cole is not attending college in Williamsburg, Virginia, he lives with his parents, Stephen and Patty, in Pennsylvania.

Lalande, Ardoin wed

Sarah Katherine Lalande and Dr. Justin Michael Ardoin were united in the Sacrament of Holy Matrimony Friday, Jan. 4, 2019, at The Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist. The ceremony was celebrated by Father Howard Blessing.

The bride is the daughter of Mrs. Phillip Theodore Lalande and the late Mr. Phillip Theodore Lalande of Lafayette. She is the granddaughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Theodore Dennie Lalande and the late Mr. and Mrs. Woodrow Oscar Weatherly.

Father Selsius is brilliant and interesting and a serious Catholic Priest. His sermons are sharp and to the point. He spends very little time wandering in his homilies, unless he is obligated to read a letter from the Bishop. Church is an obligation to be sure but most times for me it is a welcomed though short-lived respite. That does not mean that I do not sometimes nod off to a cat nap. But for the most part I seek guidance and more often than not I get something that I can take away that helps me trudge a little further on my way successfully toward salvation.

JDP 4-H Dairy Club and Jr. Leaders honor vets

Four-H members of the Jeff Davis Parish Dairy Club and Jeff Davis Parish Jr. Leader Club honored local veterans for their service on Dec. 20, 2018, at the Southwest Louisiana Veterans Home. Club members honored the veterans for their service to our country be presenting them with Christmas gifts and handmade cards made by the Jeff Davis Parish Dairy Club. Members assisted with the Christmas party by serving veterans food and drinks and assisting with clean up.

Getting organized is a popular New Year’s resolution.

Clutter can be a major source of stress that affects how individuals feel about their spaces. Psychology Today indicates messy homes and work spaces can contribute to feelings of helplessness, anxiety and overwhelming stress. Clutter bombards the mind with excessive stimuli, makes it more difficult to relax and can constantly signal to the brain that work is never done.

With these organizational tips and tricks, anyone can work through their home room-byroom and conquer clutter.

Dedication, class has Elton Ladies sitting at No. 2 in 1A

ELTON - Four years ago, the Elton Lady Indians basketball program wasn’t mentioned among the elite in any areas of Class 1A basketball. However, Head Coach Roland Lacomb had a vision of what was to come while suffering through tough times all those years ago. Now, with a lot of those then freshmen now seniors, Lacomb and his squad find themselves ranked No.2 in Class 1A, sporting a 15-3 overall record.

According to Lacomb, it was the willingness of his girls to buy in, continue to improve and sharpen different areas of their game that has led to the success.

Iota defeats Northwest, eyes 5-3A title

IOTA – The Iota Bulldogs took their first step toward a possible District 5-3A basketball title Wednesday.

The Bulldogs jumped out to an early lead and then fended off a late rally to defeat last year’s district co-champion, Northwest, 70-64.

“This was a big victory,” said Iota coach Stacy Bertrand, whose team improved to 15-6 overall and 1-0 in league play with the win.

“There’s a lot of teams in this district that are pretty good and you have to take care of you’re home court and we did that tonight.”

Lady Indians demolish St.Ed’s 67-31

ELTON - The Elton Lady Indians kept on rolling through district 4-1A play Tuesday night with a 67-31 thrashing of the St. Edmund Lady Blue Jays at Oris Guidry Gymnasium. With the win, the Lady Indians upped their overall mark to 15-3, 3-0 in league play.

Elton put four starters in double figures in the blowout win, riding a game-high 19 points from Jameica James. Twin sister Jamaica ended her night with 13, while Vici Woods and Summer Ceaear each popped in 12 apiece.

CLEAN SWEEP

LAKE ARTHUR – The Lake Arthur Tigers boys and girls swept the Hathaway Hornets Wednesday night. The Lady Tigers held on to a four-point advantage at the half but ran away with the lead in the end to claim the 61-44 victory. Hathaway and Lake Arthur’s boys went toe-to-toe for the most part of the contest before the Tigers pulled away in the fourth period to win 84-57.
