IRS offers free tax filing

IRS Free File can save families, especially those with children, some money in 2020 plus find tax benefits such as the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC).

Free File is now available at IRS.gov/FreeFile.

Since its 2003 debut, Free File has served nearly 57 million taxpayers, saving them $1.7 billion using a very conservative $30 preparation fee. Young families with children are key beneficiaries of Free File, the public-private partnership between the IRS and 10 online tax preparation software providers.

The View, CNN, Fox News – I often hear or read complaints from people who cannot stand one or more, even all. The View and CNN are too liberal and spread fake news. Fox News is too conservative and spreads fake news. Bring up one of those three and people will likely have an opinion.

Less than two weeks from now, thousands of pro-life teenagers will converge on the nation’s capital to rally in support of the unborn at the 47th annual March for Life.

Unfortunately, many people are uncomfortable with the idea that millennials would raise their voices to oppose abortion. The image of young kids standing together with signs that read “Choose Life” and “Abortion Stops a Beating Heart” can be disconcerting when you are used to hearing it’s only old white men who want to strip women of the “right to choose.”

Hathaway wins game from Elton

The Hathaway basket ball girls motored to Elton Tuesday afternoon and defeated the Elton girls in a very fast game by the score of 25-18.

This is Hathaway's third consecutive victory, having won from Jennings 18-13, then Lacassine 25-6. Half of the Lacassine game was played with Edna Bucklin, star forward, on the side line.

We think the Hathaway girls are to be congratulated for their victories over these larger schools, especially since the majority of the girls are playing their first year on varsity squad.

KYIV, Ukraine (AP) — Ukraine’s prime minister submitted his resignation Friday, days after he was caught on tape saying President Volodymyr Zelenskiy — a former sitcom star with no previous political experience — knows nothing about the economy.

The scandal comes at a fraught moment for Zelenskiy, who has found himself in the middle of the impeachment case unfolding against President Donald Trump in Washington. Trump stands accused of withholding nearly $400 million in military aid to Ukraine to pressure the country’s leader to investigate Trump political rival Joe Biden.

Rev. Leavitt speaks to Koasata Indians

Rev. FW. Leavitt, minister of the Congregational church, left early Saturday morning with W.J. Savage for Kinder where he spoke to the Koasata Indians the same evening.

There are 125 adults, all of which belong to the Congregational church. They have their own minister, Rev. Paul Leaders. They also have their own building where they hold their regular services.

Fees, gator hunts proposed for wildlife refuges in SE La.

NEW ORLEANS (AP) — The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is proposing fees for using eight national wildlife refuges in southeast Louisiana, and is also considering lottery alligator hunts on six of its refuges.

The two together could raise about $120,000 for the Southeast Louisiana National Wildlife Refuges Complex, about two-thirds of the money from user permits, project leader Neil Lalonde said Monday.
