Centenary College lists Fall 2019 honors

SHREVEPORT - A total of 228 Centenary students have been named to the Dean’s List for Fall 2019. The honor list names all students who have achieved a grade point average of 3.5 or higher in 12 or more semester hours taken for a letter grade during the spring semester.

McKenzy LeJeune of Iota is one local student who earned a spot on that list.

Conner named to Louisiana College Dean’s list

From Louisiana, the US and abroad, 293 Louisiana College students excelled in 33 majors and comprise the Fall 2019 semester Dean’s List.

Criminal justice major Allie Conner from Welsh is on the list. Like her counterparts, Conner carried at least a 12-hour load, maintained at least a 3.5 GPA and had no grade below a C.

Socialist meeting broken up by mob

ELTON - Because it was reported that the American flag had been torn down at the Socialist encampment here Friday night, a mob formed and for a time threatened to do violence to the members of that organization. Through the efforts of the more prominent Socialists and officials here violence was prevented, but the episode broke up the encampment, which was to have closed last night.

Axe Death Blow Dealt By Hinchey

John E. Jacobs, the man who was struck in the head with an axe more than a week ago by EW. Hinchey, died at his home near China yesterday morning from the effects of a broken skull. Since the altercation between Jacobs and Hinchey, very little hope has been entertained for Jacob’s recovery, and he had been hovering very near death’s door for the past few days.

Mayor warns carnival to cease operations

On the day the Russell Brothers Shows arrived in Jennings, protests were heard against allowing them to operate here. The protests may not have been so much against the "Shows" themselves as they were against the questionable and "unquestionable" concessions attached thereto.

One party in describing a street connected to the outfit said, "It is a solid mass of gambling dens" But in this he was very much mistaken. A few of them may have run gambling devices, but a big majority of them conducted robbing machines.
