BATON ROUGE (AP) — Louisiana’s confirmed number of coronavirus cases spiked 42 percent higher Thursday as a backlog of test results poured in and confirmed Gov. John Bel Edwards’ message that the virus’s footprint across the state is much wider than limited testing has been able to document so far.

(AP) - Bill Withers, who wrote and sang a string of soulful songs in the 1970s that have stood the test of time, including “Lean on Me, “ “Lovely Day” and “Ain’t No Sunshine,” has died from heart complications, his family said in a statement to The Associated Press. He was 81.

As of press time Friday, 14 cases of COVID-19 had been confirmed within Jeff Davis Parish with zero deaths. According to the Louisiana Department of Health, 385 parish residents have been tested for the virus.
