LDWF gives tips for care of displaced, injured, orphaned wildlife

In the aftermath of a storm, wildlife species will seek higher ground and be displaced into a habitat in which they may not be familiar. The Louisiana Department of Wildlife (LDWF) urges the public to be aware of wildlife forced into by populated areas by floodwaters. Some may become injured or orphaned during inclement weather conditions.

The Louisiana State Fire Marshal’s Office is reminding the state’s business community about the phased guidance documents that are available online to assist in creating a safe and successful environment to operate during the continuing COVID- 19 pandemic.

Chief: Shelter safely, stay off roadways

By this afternoon, residents should be taking shelter and avoid hitting the roadways.

Jennings Police Department Chief Danny Semmes said he hopes citizens heed Mayor Henry Guinn’s advice to voluntarily evacuate.

“If you don’t have to be here, try to find a safe location,” Semmes said. “If you have no choice but to be here, by tomorrow afternoon, you need to be at the location you plan to stay for the duration of the storm.”

He cautioned the public about police availability during the storm, as wind and rain could prevent units from reaching certain locations.

Election plan doesn’t account for all virus risks

Louisiana voters are waiting to learn if they’ll face a stark choice to cast their ballots this fall: Do you stay home if you’ve been exposed to the coronavirus and skip the election? Or do you violate public health guidance about isolation and stand in line with dozens of other people to vote, possibly spreading the highly contagious virus?

The emergency elections plan put forth by Secretary of State Kyle Ardoin and backed by Republican lawmakers could force people in quarantine to choose between the safety of others and their voting rights.

Funeral services for Mindy Ann Kennedy, 21, were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 23, 2020, in Miguez Funeral Home Chapel in Jennings, with Carl Guidry officiating, with cremation following the service.

Funeral home visitation was held from 1:30 p.m. Sunday until the time of service.

Mindy passed away at 11:40 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 20, 2020, in Lafayette General Hospital.

She lived her entire life in the Jennings area. She loved her cats dearly. She enjoyed painting, spending time with her family and friends, and most of all she loved spoiling her nieces and nephews.
