A Mass of Christian burial for Rose Ann Jurls of Jennings will be held at Our Lady Help of Christians Catholic Church in Jennings today, Tuesday, Aug. 25, 2020, at 2 p.m., with Father Keith Pellerin officiating.

A gathering of family and friends will be held at the funeral home today, Tuesday, Aug. 25, 2020, from 9:30 a.m. until the time of her mass, with a rosary recited at 11 a.m.

Rose will be laid to rest in Greenwood Cemetery.

Residents urged to include pets in storm prep plans

With the inclement weather predicted from upcoming storms, animal rescue experts are advising residents to make sure pets are taken care of as storm preparations are made.

Animal advocates and rescue workers Lauren and Donna Courville shared some suggestions of what to keep in mind.

“A lot of animals are scared to death of storms,” said Lauren. “Please bring your pets inside and properly contain them.”

Many animals can sense the pressure changes in the atmosphere when a storm is near.

Gator Hunt

The Zigler Art Museum (ZAM) is celebrating hometown author and former museum director Celia Joe Black by hosting a “gator hunt” at participating locations around the community. Those who participate in the scavenger hunt have a chance to win a prize package worth over $150.

“You may have heard of the new children’s book, ‘Antoine and Friends Go to France,’ written by Celia Jo and illustrated by ZAM’s very own Jessica Trahan,” said museum staff member Bailey Guidroz. “In honor of their achievement, we are sponsoring a town-wide scavenger hunt.”

Sandbags available across parish

As Southwest Louisiana awaits the arrival of storms Marco and Laura, sand and sandbags have been made available around Jeff Davis Parish.

The following locations were announced by the Jeff Davis Parish Sheriff’s Office. Residents are advised to bring their own shovels as each site is selfserve, and should obtain sand and sandbags from the location nearest their residence.

SANDBAG LOCATIONS:

• Elton Town Hall, 1302 Main St., Elton

• Welsh Police Department, 201 W. South Street

• Jennings Street Department, 106 E. Jefferson Street
