WELSH - The Rayne Wolves used a strong second half defensive effort to ease to a 19-6 win over the Welsh Greyhounds in the opening of the 2020 gridiron season. The Wolves allowed only one first down after halftime and just 24 yards of total offense to Welsh.
LAKE ARTHUR – The Lake Arthur Tigers (LA) gave the 3A Iota Bulldogs all they could handle last Friday in each team’s opener. The Tigers trailed just 28-21heading into halftime, after each squad went blow-for-blow in a highlight-filled first half. However, Iota was able to put the nail in the coffin midway through the final stanza to pull away with a 35-21 victory over a feisty LA club.
Foo Fact of the Game: DeRidder took a 13-0 lead before the Dogs even ran an offensive play. However, the Jennings coaches and players stayed focused, and went on to defeat the Dragons 29-20.
How great was it to truly find some sense of normalcy this past Friday night with high school football being played. The sounds of the game, cheerleaders, bands and fans all remind us that so many people from around Southwest Louisiana were yearning for those Friday Night Lights.
The Jennings Parks and Recreation Department is now accepting sign up forms to participate in their Fall soccer league. Forms may be picked up at the Jennings Recreation Department or at any Jennings school. The cost to register is $20 and forms must be turned in or mailed in by Oct. 9.
Homecoming preparations are well underway within the halls of Lake Arthur High School (LAHS) as well as across the entire town. With this in mind, we continue the Homecoming season by giving a spotlight feature each week to the year’s Lake Arthur High School Homecoming Court Maids.

A funeral mass for Nelda Landry, 89, will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 10, 2020, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, located at 209 N. Washington St. in Elton.
