I just signed up to be a mentor at my law school, and did something that is atypical for me: Display a preference for female law students. It even surprises me when I look at that sentence, since my entire career as a columnist has been dedicated to the proposition that gender, race, sexual orientation, religion and all of the other epidermal things that form our identity are less important than the intangibles of brain, values, heart and capacity for endurance.

Monday last day to register in person

Residents are reminded that tomorrow, Monday, Oct. 5 is the last day to register to vote at the registrar’s office for the Nov. 3 election.

Gameday Sponsor auction to benefit Bulldogs

With only one fundraiser planned for an unusual football season, Jennings High supporters are hoping the public shows their love for the Dogs in a big way. The Jennings Quarterback Club and the Team Behind the Team have joined forces for a silent auction that will offer eight Touchdown Gameday Sponsor packages to the highest bidders. There are two packages for each home game the Dogs play this year. Each package will include 10 tickets, advertisement at the gate entrance and callouts over the PA system pre- and postgame, as well as each quarter. The seating will be placed in separate bleachers located near the field house at Jerry Simmons Stadium.

Dogs rally to claim hard-fought 29-20 win over Dragons

DERIDDER – The Jennings Bulldogs kicked off the shortened 2020 season on the right foot as they rallied from an early deficit to claim a 29-20 victory over the DeRidder Dragons Friday night. Jennings fell behind 13-0 early in the first quarter, but the Bulldogs answered back with 20 unanswered points to claim a lead they would never relinquish.
