JACKSON, Miss. (AP) — A Mississippi company has a four-year military contract worth up to $86 million for food distribution in Mississippi and Louisiana.
An 18-year-old and a 17-year-old were arrested early Monday after a plan to trade a weapon ended up in a gunfight. Logan Lee Meyer, 18, of Crowley is facing an attempted second-degree murder charge and is being held in the parish jail. The 17-year-old’s name and charges were not disclosed due to age.
LEESVILLE (AP) — A man accused of beating his parents to death has killed himself in jail, Louisiana authorities said. Robert Matthew Lombardo, 46, of Leesville died Friday, Vernon Parish Sheriff Sam Craft told The American Press.
A memorial service for Robert Soileau, 80, will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 27, 2021, at Grace Community Baptist Church, located at 212 Mamou Prairie Road in Iota.
LAKE ARTHUR - Funeral services for Mrs. Betty Duhon LeBlanc, 81, of Lake Arthur were held at 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 22, 2021, in Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church, with Rev. Jay Alexius officiating.

LAKE ARTHUR - The No. 3 Lake Arthur Lady Tigers finally were able to get back on the court Saturday after having their opening round Class 2A playoff game moved back due to winter weather earlier in the week. However, the Lady Tigers were their same old selves after the delay, cruising to a 74-30 win over the Rapides Lady Mustangs to advance to the regional round yet again. Lake Arthur had an extremely quick turn around from game-to-game, as they did battle with Red River High School Monday afternoon at “Nookie” Moore Gymnasium. No. 14 Red River defeated No. 19 D’Arbonne Woods Charter Sunday afternoon to advance to take on the Lady Tigers for the chance to play in the quarterfinals. With the win, Lake Arthur was able to move their dazzling overall record to 27-4 on the season.
With last week’s historic winter weather finally out of the way, the LHSAA girls’ basketball playoff brackets finally started to get back on track over the weekend. With many games throughout the state being moved from their originally scheduled dates, the future for most parish teams were ironed out with games being played. Three Jeff Davis Parish (JDP) schools received opening-round byes because of their stellar play throughout the regular season, and were forced to sit and wait until other games could be decided.
