Court upholds Talbert Conviction

The Third Circuit Court of Appeal has upheld the seconddegree murder conviction of Trevonte “Tank” Talbert, who shot and killed 25-year-old Nehemiah Gray in Welsh in 2018.

Vaccine doses expand to those 65 and older

This week, 378 vaccine providers across the state will receive very limited doses of COVID vaccine, according to a press release from the Louisiana Department of Health . These providers — including 112 chain pharmacies, 127 independent pharmacies, 52 hospitals, 15 community health centers (including 13 federally qualified health centers, or FQHCs), 6 rural health clinics (RHCs), 28 public health providers and 38 other healthcare sites — represent all nine public health regions and 64 parishes of the state.

LAKE CHARLES - All 15 players on the Jennings Lady Bulldogs roster found the scorebook in an 87-7 beat down over the Lake Charles College Prep (LCCP) Lady Trailblazers Friday night. The win moved the No. 5-ranked Lady Bulldogs to an overall record of 18-6, 4-3 in district 4-3A play. Jennings will close out its schedule this week with a Tuesday night game against South Beauregard and a Friday night contest with Westlake.

Jennings club celebrates Optimist Day

Every first Thursday in February Optimist International celebrates Optimist Day throughout the world.

For Optimist Day 2021, amid all our worldwide and national concerns, the organization stated, “Now, more than ever, we should choose optimism.”

On this past Thursday, Feb. 4, the Jennings Optimist Club certainly planned to do so, said Lenor Cox, secretary and treasurer of the local club.

Church pantry still going strong

For almost six years now, First Baptist Church Jennings has partneredwith Second Harvest Food Bank to run a food pantry for the Jeff Davis community.

First Baptist operates the food pantry through its Family Life Center, located just north of the Sanctuary along Cary Avenue.

Brian Wells, Minister of Education and manager of the food pantry, explained that the church receives deliveries of non-perishables and USDA food twice a month.
