Candidate meet and greet held at local park

A candidate meet and great was held here Saturday at Marcus Cain Park.

A Path Going Forward and the Jeff Davis Parish NAACP chapter hosted the event with the purpose of introducing the community to Jennings mayoral and city council candidates to give voters a chance to hear candidates discuss issues.

District B council member candidates Johnny Armentor and Chris Carrier were unable to attend.

Mayoral candidates included incumbent Henry Guinn and Melvin Adams.

Students at Welsh Elementary School got a special treat Friday afternoon with powdered paint fun. The event was held in conjunction with a fundraiser for classroom expenses. Ms. Soileau’s first grade class (below) and Ms. Pousson’s third grade class (right) enjoy the colorful dust. 

Friday wreck results in minor injuries

A traffic accident on eastbound Interstate 10 Friday afternoon caused some delays, but no major injuries were reported.

A single pickup truck had driven into a guardrail by mile marker 62 near Jennings. The accident occurred around 3 p.m. on Feb. 26.

Jennings Fire Department responded to the call, along with medical responders and the Louisiana State Police. Jennings Police Department assisted with traffic control.

“There were two very minor injuries,” said Ashley Navarre with the Jennings Fire Department. “It was a minor wreck with minor injuries.”

Alabama school to offer medical degree unique to 4 states

MOBILE, Ala. (AP) — A small college on the Alabama coast said it will begin offering a new medical degree that will be unique to four Deep South states.

The University of Mobile’s new doctor of nurse anesthesia practice program will be the only such course of study in Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana and Mississippi, the school said in a statement.

Shreveport mayor, council to discuss infrastructure repairs

SHREVEPORT, La. (AP) — After the problems suffered by the city’s water system during the recent deep freeze, Shreveport Mayor Adrian Perkins said he is asking the city council for a meeting to discuss infrastructure improvements and will be doing a review to figure out what went wrong.

KTBS reported that Perkins told the station in a statement that he had asked the council for a meeting “in order to get a consensus on infrastructure improvements. And that will likely include a bond proposal.”
