Dear Editor,

Obviously, the Democrats are playing a dangerous and dishonest game with threats to pack the Supreme Court with an activist majority. It would seem to me that should they do so, the GOP would simply be forced to reverse the effort when the GOP regained a majority (assuming that Democrat current efforts to destroy election integrity ever allows a future change of power!).

You can never imagine what conversations you will overhear or be involved in at a grocery store. Aside from the task of fighting crowds and cursing the price of every item you need, there’s always some person who makes your shopping experience interesting. It could be that parent that continuously screams at a child until you want to run them over with your buggy. The first person I thought when I heard that Prince Philip had died was Elizabeth, a Queen in the greater world but only and always a wife to the man who’d been by her side for longer than I’ve been alive.

School board skeptical of HB 199

Jeff Davis Parish School Board members have expressed skepticism at the idea behind HB 199, a proposed constitutional amendment that would centralize local sales and use tax collection to a state level.

The bill passed the House Ways and Means Committee 14-1 Tuesday and is moving on to the Senate, said board tax administrator Amber Hymel. It would need to pass the Senate before being put before voters in 2022.

Just six months ago — it seems like so much longer — many Democrats were supremely confident about their prospects in the 2020 election. Some saw Joe Biden winning in a landslide over then-President Donald Trump. Speaker Nancy Pelosi believed House Democrats would increase the size of their majority. Others predicted Democrats flipping the Senate with a clear majority.
