BATON ROUGE (AP) — The Louisiana Senate voted Monday to require regular audits of the state’s elections by the legislative auditor, a measure pushed by Republicans who said they wanted to ensure people have confidence in election results.
The proposal by Sen. Heather Cloud, a Turkey Creek Republican, was sent to the House with a 27-10 vote. All Republicans present for the vote backed the bill. All Democrats — except Norco Sen. Gary Smith — voted against it.
