Hanks to assume command of naval air station

Capt. Eric Hanks, of Jennings, was named commander of the Naval Air Station (NAS) Whidbey Island in Washington during a change of command ceremony Friday.

Post 19 Installs 2021-22 Officers

During the July meeting of James O. Hall Post 19 of the American Legion and Unit 19 of the American Legion Auxiliary, both from Jennings, American Legion Department of Louisiana 7th District Commander Glenn McFarlain (left) installed Post 19’s officers who will serve for 2021-2022. They are (from left to right) Darrell Landry (Adjutant), Tyler Schexnayder (Color Bearer), Jimmy Richert (Finance Officer), Mike Sanchez (Commander), Grace Dalton (Chaplain), Horace Naquin (Sergeantat-Arms) and Charles Burrell (Vice Commander). Not able to attend the meeting was Color Bearer Bill Caraway.

NEW ORLEANS (AP) — They were tough acts to follow on the stage of 20th century Louisiana politics: the arm-flailing Depression-era orator Huey Long, a senator and former governor shot to death while eyeing the presidency; country-singing Gov. Jimmie Davis, who once rode up the Capitol steps on horseback; and Gov. Earl Long, Huey’s brother, who cavorted with Bourbon Street stripper Blaze Starr in the 1950s.
