History was made Friday night, after the second of Valerie Breaux’s two serves was returned out of the back of the court, completing a 3-1 set win over Mt. Olive High School (Athens, LA). The win gave the new Christ Bridge Academy Archangels, not only their first volleyball win, but first ever win in all sports in school history. The Archangels began play in the ACEL this season after the school was launched in August of this year. Christ Bridge Academy uses James Ward Gym as their home, being located across the street from their campus (Old Morgan Smith Sowela) on North Main St. With the majority of girls classified as freshmen and sophomores, Archangels volleyball looks to be a mainstay for the new school. Christ Bridge Academy took sets one and two (25-20, 25-7) before falling in the third set (20-25). The Archangels closed out the Mt. Olive Eagles (25-21) in the fourth and final set to take the victory. Leading the charge was Valerie Breaux and Addison Brignac. Brianna Langley, the team’s lone senior played a major role in the win along with Emma Hanks, Victoria Bruchhaus, and Kelly Broussard. Shyla Litteral also saw playing time as well in the win.
