Etienne, Hebert lead Dogs to shutout of SB

LONGVILLE — An inspired Jennings Bulldog defense and the mighty Trevor Etienne led the Dogs to a 43-0 win over the South Beau Golden Knights Friday night.

The Bulldog defense, led by Khorey Hebert, stifled the Knights offense and producing multiple 3-and-outs on several occasions.

On the offensive side, it was all Etienne in multiple ways. He had five rushing touchdowns and a punt return for a score, and also a 2-point run and long pass to Clay Broussard.

Wages jump by the most on records dating back 20 years

WASHINGTON (AP) — Wages and salaries jumped in the three months ending in September by the most on records that date back 20 years as companies are forced to offer higher pay to fill a near-record number of available jobs.

Pay increased 1.5% in the third quarter, the Labor Department said Friday. That’s up sharply from 0.9% in the previous quarter. The value of benefits rose 0.9% in the July-September quarter, more than double the preceding three months.

Goodbye, Ms. Vera

Retired educator, community volunteer and service pioneer Vera Bell Perkins Abraham passed away peacefully at the age of 88 on Tuesday after battling a lengthy illness.

Abraham was known by residents throughout the community for her ability to leave behind a dose of goodness with every individual she came into contact with.

I wrote it for my grandkids because of the trash we hear almost daily from the media and some politicians. It has already been sent to family, a few in the media and my congressional delegation.

Home-delivered meals save money for Medicare

Medicare could save $1.57 for every dollar spent delivering free healthy meals to frail seniors after a hospitalization, according to a study that comes as lawmakers look to restrain costs by promoting patients’ well-being.

The report from the Bipartisan Policy Center addresses ways that Medicare can do a better job coordinating care for chronically ill patients, who account for most of the program’s $650 billion annual cost.

Practical services like meal delivery can make a big difference helping older people avoid health flare-ups that can send them to the hospital.
