Seniors treated to holiday lunch

In the spirit of giving, some of the city’s senior citizens were treated last week to a catered Thanksgiving lunch and an afternoon of togetherness.

Westminster Homes board member Charlie Williams said the Welsh Presbyterian Church provided lunch for the residents at the facility last week.

“This was the best day I ever had on the board,” Williams said. “The event was really well-received. People had a great time over a great meal.”

USDA accepting rural broadband loan, grant applications

U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Secretary Tom Vilsack recently announced USDA has begun accepting applications for up to $1.15 billion in loans and grants to help people in rural areas get access to high-speed internet.

The announcement comes on the heels of the recently enacted Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, which provides another nearly $2 billion in additional funding for the ReConnect program. USDA anticipates issuing a new Notice of Funding Opportunity to make the additional funds in the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law available in 2022.

Broussard’s big night leads Cards to win over Elton

SINGER – The Lacassine Cardinals improved their record to 9-2 overall on the young season by defeating a talented Elton Indian squad by the final of 56-44 in the semi-finals of the Singer High School Invitational. The loss dropped the Indians to 2-2 overall on the year.

US TO REQUIRE VACCINES FOR ALL BORDER CROSSERS IN JANUARY

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Joe Biden will require essential, nonresident travelers crossing U.S. land borders, such as truck drivers, government and emergency response officials, to be fully vaccinated beginning on Jan. 22, the administration planned to announce.

Each year, Jennings Daily News assists Santa Claus during his busiest season by delivering the letters of local children to the North Pole. The letters may also be published in upcoming special editions of JDN. Old Kriss Kringle has already dropped off his mailbox in front of the Jennings Daily News (JDN) office, located at 238 N. Market St. in Jennings. The deadline to submit letters to Santa is Tuesday, Dec. 14. Letters may also be submitted by emailing editor@jenningsdailynews.net.

NASA launches spacecraft to test asteroid defense concept
