Pedestrian killed in Jennings crash

A Welsh woman was killed while walking along the Frontage Road Saturday night.

Troopers from Louisiana State Police (LSP) Troop D responded to a crash involving a pedestrian on I-10 South Frontage Road just west of 26 in Jennings, Saturday, Nov. 6, just before 7:30 p.m. The crash claimed the life of 36-year old Katie Rae Mott of Welsh, according to LSP Public Information Officer Derek Senegal.

SB faces shortage of substitutes

Jeff Davis Parish School Board (JDSB) is experiencing a shortage of substitutes in all positions.

JDSB Superintendent Kirk Credeur said it’s been difficult to find people to help in schools when an employee needs a day off.

“All of our schools have been working shorthanded for a while now, ” he said. “The shortage is an issue we were dealing with prior to COVID-19 and it has never gotten any better.”

Credeur isn’t only referring to teachers.

Local church brings the Compassion Journey to Jennings

Our Savior’s Church Jennings (OSC) will host a program aimed at raising awareness about impoverished children around the globe.

Compassion International partners with churches to host the Compassion Journey.

OSC Senior Pastor Lindsey Belt and Executive Assistant Lori Scott explained the details of the program.

“The company will stage what a day in the life of one of these children is like,” Belt said. “There will be headphones available to listen to the child’s story as you walk through the journey.”

Howard ‘Bubba’ McCann, Jr.

Funeral services for Pastor Howard “Bubba” McCann, Jr., will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 11, 2021, at Our Saviors Church in Jennings, with his oldest son, Zachary McCann, officiating.

Cremation will follow the service under the direction of Miguez Funeral Home.

Visitation will be held at the church Thursday from 11 a.m. until the time of service at 3 p.m.

Sylvia Sue Broussard Adickes

Sylvia Sue Broussard Adickes, 66, of Richmond, Texas, passed away at home on Oct. 30, 2021.

She was born in Jennings on July 30, 1955, to Cleveland and Dorothy Guidry Broussard.

She attended McNeese State University and studied nursing before marrying Herbert Allen Adickes in February of 1974. They moved to Texas and over their 47-year marriage. They raised three daughters and kept watch over seven grandchildren.

Public invited to join in holiday decorating

The public is invited to help decorate the Hall of Trees at the Tupper Museum in preparation for the holidays.

“Please join us in putting the final glitz, glimmer and garland on our Jennings Hall of Trees,” said city event organizer Lin Fake. “We have been busy getting all of our decorations sorted out. We will begin decorating at 5 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 16.”

Fake said with so man trees to set up, the staff would be overwhelmed on their own. Volunteers are needed to complete the extravagant winter wonderland.
