End of daylight saving time means winter is on the horizon

WASHINGTON (AP) — Winter is on the horizon again with the end of daylight saving time coming Sunday across most of the United States.

Standard time begins at 2 a.m. local time Sunday. Set the clocks back an hour before bed Saturday night and gain an extra hour of sleep. Going forward, it will be lighter earlier in the morning but will grow darker earlier in the evening.

But a recent poll shows that most Americans want to avoid switching between daylight saving and standard time, though there is no consensus behind which should be used all year.

Fostering gives children a future

Thousands of Louisiana children are in foster care, unsure of where they will go next. Many will be reunited with their families, however, that is not the case for all of them, unfortunately.

November is National Adoption Awareness Month.

The goal for any child taken out of their home or removed from their family is reunification as soon as possible, but what happens when that isn’t possible? The children stay within the foster care system until someone is interested in them or they age out and become too old to be a ward of DCSF.

Lawmakers might redraw La. Supreme Court map

Louisiana lawmakers are trying to wade into a political thicket they haven’t braved in nearly 25 years: the redrawing of maps setting the state’s Supreme Court districts.

The hurdle for a successful redesign is high. Prior discussions across the last two decades about remapping the Louisiana Supreme Court collapsed in disagreement. But House and Senate members looking at wide population disparities across the high court’s districts say it’s time to try again in the special redistricting session planned for February.

BATON ROUGE (AP) — The body of a Louisiana man who wanted it donated for science was dissected before paying viewers at an “Oddities and Curiosities Expo” in Oregon, news agencies report. His wife is aghast.

“As far as I’m concerned, it’s horrible, unethical, and I just don’t have the words to describe it,” Elsie Saunders of Baker, a Baton Rouge suburb, told The Advocate. “I have all this paperwork that says his body would be used for science — nothing about this commercialization of his death.”

Former alderman charged with online crimes

WELSH — A former elected official was charged this week for allegedly harassing and impersonating a victim online.

Jacob Colby Perry, 28, of Welsh was charged Thursday afternoon with telephone harassment, online impersonation, cyberstalking and nonconsensual disclosure of a private image.

A victim contacted Welsh police complaining that Perry was harassing him through a messenger-type app, according to Welsh Police Department Chief Marcus Crochet.

Area Principals of the Year announced

Jeff Davis Parish School Board (JDSB) recently announced the principals of the year for the parish. The honor went to high school principal Dr. Cassidy Juneau, middle school principal Frances Leblanc and elementary school principal Katie Maggio.

The first honoree was Juneau from Hathaway High School (HHS).
