(AP) — Russian regulators said Friday that internet users will be blocked from accessing Instagram because it’s being used to call for violence against Russian soldiers, in Moscow’s latest move to tighten up access to foreign social platforms.

LVIV, Ukraine (AP) — Russia widened its offensive in Ukraine on Friday, striking airfields in the west and a major industrial city in the east, while the huge armored column that had been stalled for over a week outside Kyiv was on the move again, spreading out into forests and towns near the capital.

After student’s death, lawmakers vote to study sports safety

HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — A Connecticut legislative committee has approved a bill calling for a study of youth sports safety including the use of hockey neck guards, in response to the death of a 10th grade hockey player.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Immigration enforcement arrests within the U.S. fell sharply over the past year as the Biden administration shifted its enforcement priorities to focus on people in the country without legal status who have committed serious crimes, officials said Friday.

Rayne stymies Jennings bats in 6-1 defeat

The Jennings Bulldogs ran into a buzzsaw on the mound Thursday night, as Britt Cope and the Rayne Wolves bested the Dogs by a final of 6-1 at Danny Reed Field. Cope tossed a complete game 3-hitter to send the Dogs to their third straight defeat. The loss dropped the Dogs to 3-7 overall on the season, and they were back in action at home on Saturday when they welcomed in 5A power Southside High School for a 1:30 pm contest. The Dogs got off to a quick start by picking up a run in the top of the first inning, but it was all Cope after that. The big righty fanned 12 Jennings hitters over the final six frames, and Rayne scored runs in the second, third, sixth and seventh innings to earn the win. Seth Benoit was the tough-luck losing pitcher for Jennings, as he allowed four runs, with none being earned, and struck out seven on only three hits through five innings. The Bulldogs made six errors in the contest that helped Rayne score the bulk of their runs. Jennings was also able to only muster three hits off of Cope in the contest.

Kaplan rallies past Tigers, 8-4

LAKE ARTHUR – The Lake Arthur Tigers got out to a quick start in Thursday’s home contest against the Kaplan Pirates, however the guests rallied in the later innings to claim an 8-4 non-district tilt. With the ball game knotted at 4-4 going into the top of the sixth frame, Kaplan pushed across three runs in the inning and another in the seventh to earn the victory. The loss drops the Tigers to 5-3 on the season, and they were scheduled to be back in action Friday when they took on Gueydan and Saturday against Grace Christian.
