Russian space capsule leak likely caused by micrometeorite

MOSCOW (AP) — A coolant leak from a Russian space capsule attached to the International Space Station was likely caused by a micrometeorite strike, a Russian space official said Thursday.

Hornets fall to Broncos, 80-50

IOWA — The Hathaway High Hornets made the short trip to Iowa Thursday night to compete in the Mallet Builders Iowa High School Invitational. They met the Sam Houston High Broncos on the hardwood at David Buller Gymnasium on the Iowa High campus. The Hornets put up a fight but ultimately fell 80-50 to the Broncos. The loss moved the Hornets to 2-11 and the Broncos to 5-3.

IOWA — The Hathaway Yellow Jackets strolled in the Mallett Builders Iowa High School Basketball Tournament Wednesday and let everyone know who the team to beat on the girls’ side was quite quickly. The Lady Hornets made quick work out of the Grand Lake Lady Hornets by a final of 84-32 in a game that was never contested. Hathaway rode the sharp shooting duo of freshman Sienna Guidry and senior Lamiyah Sanchez, who combined for 49 points and 13 3-pointers in the win. The Lady Hornets are back in action this afternoon when they take on the Lacassine Lady Cardinals at 5 pm at David Buller Gymnasium in Iowa.

I-10 shoulders to close for pole upgrades

The shoulders at four exits off I-10 in Jeff Davis Parish will see closures next week to allow state crews to allow to install Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) equipment.

Drake sworn in as governor’s appointee

Geraldine Drake, of Welsh, was sworn in Tuesday to serve as the governor’s appointee to the Jeff Davis Parish Board of Election Supervisors after the Judy Broussard resigned from the board.

Election totals updated

It was printed this week that Town of Elton mayoral candidate Kesia Lemoine received 149 or 51 percent of the vote, while candidate Brandon Kelley took in 144 or 49 percent of the vote. After press time on Monday, these totals were updated by the Louisiana Secretary of State’s Office to show Lemoine received 211 or 54 percent of the vote, while Kelley received 178 or 46 percent of the vote.
