Republican Jeff Landry leads in campaign funds

BATON ROUGE (AP) — As the 2023 Louisiana governor’s race nears, the campaign war chest of Republican Attorney General Jeff Landry has far surpassed the cash on hand of any other gubernatorial candidate in the state. Landry, a conservative Republican and staunch former President Donald Trump supporter, has amassed more than $6.3 million in onhand cash, according to campaign finance reports published Tuesday. Landry was the first to announce he was running for governor in Louisiana’s October election, and received a controversial early endorsement from the state’s Republican Party. “With our campaign continuing to produce robust fundraising numbers every month, it’s clear that people are investing in who they believe will do the best job as Louisiana’s next Governor,” Landry said in a written statement.

Judge’s donations cloud rulings

NEW ORLEANS (AP) — A federal judge donated tens of thousands of dollars to New Orleans’ Roman Catholic archdiocese and consistently ruled in favor of the church amid a contentious bankruptcy involving nearly 500 clergy sex abuse victims, The Associated Press found, an apparent conflict that could throw the case into disarray.

FRENCH SETTLEMENT – The No. 17 Lake Arthur Tigers made the long trek to East Louisiana to take on No. 16 French Settlement in the opening round of the Division IV non-select playoffs Thursday evening. The Tigers would scratch and claw all game long, but eventually fell to their hosts by a final of 7-3. The Tigers end their great season with a 15-15 overall mark on the year. The Lions would jump out to a 6-0 lead through the first five frames, however Lake Arthur would not go down easy. The Tigers scored one in the fifth and two in the seventh to make it close, but the Lions would hold off and earn a 7-3 win. They will now advance to play No. 1 Oak Grove in the regional round.
