Lawmakers regret cutting $100M from state health department budget

BATON ROUGE (AP) — Lawmakers in Louisiana's GOPcontrolled Senate said that they regretted their hasty passage of the state's $45 billion budget — namely their decision to reduce a proposed funding increase for the state Department of Health by $100 million — and called on Democratic Gov. John Bel Edwards to clean up the mess.

Paris police look at gas leak as possible cause of explosion and fire

PARIS (AP) — A strong explosion rocked a building in Paris' Left Bank on Wednesday, injuring at least 24 people, igniting a fire that sent smoke soaring over the French capital's monuments and prompting an evacuation of other properties, authorities said. Police were investigating suspicions that a gas leak caused the blast.

IOWA — Jeff Davis Parish Sheriff’s Office (JDSO), with assistance from Louisiana State Police (LSP), arrested a Lake Charles man earlier this week after a domestic dispute led to a single-car motor vehicle accident on I-10. Hunter Allen Lecroix, 20, was charged with battery of a dating partner and aggravated criminal damage to property.

Wildlife program offers possible reward for violation tips

A state wildlife program which works to keep illegal activities to a minimum is offering residents the opportunity to alert officials of possible hunting, fishing and littering violations, while also offering a monetary award if the information leads to the issuance of a citation.
