Hounds to face top-seeded Logansport

WELSH — The Welsh Greyhounds will hit the road for the first time in the state playoffs this Friday when they travel to Logansport to take on the number oneranked Tigers in the state quarterfinals. Logansport dominated a good Franklin High team last week, while the Hounds handed White Castle a ticket to the basketball season.

Bulldogs travel to No. 2 Cecilia for quarterfinal showdown

The Jennings Bulldogs are coming off of a huge 25-23 victory over the St. Martinville Tigers in the regional round of the Division II non-select playoffs last Friday night, but now have their sights set on a powerful No. 2 Cecilia team heading into the quarterfinals. The Cecilia Bulldogs come into the quarterfinals after pummeling the Iota Bulldogs by a final of 70-30 in the regional round. Cecilia comes in with an overall record of 10-1, with its’ only loss coming to 5A Southside in week two of the regular season.

Hounds advance to quarterfinals with thumping of White Castle

WELSH — The Welsh Greyhounds rolled up 414 yards of offense and played a very physical defense to blow out the White Castle Bulldogs by a 54-18 score in the regional round of the class 2-A non-select state playoffs. Welsh will advance to the quarterfinals, where they will travel to face the number one-ranked Logansport Tigers next Friday night. With the lopsided win, the Greyhounds move to 9-3 for the season. The hosts scored with their first five possessions to put the contest away early. The Hounds took the opening kickoff and promptly motored 62 yards in five plays to strike paydirt. The payoff came on a 34-yard burst by senior tailback Hayden vanNess with 9:32 still to play in the opening stan-za. Junior Brecken Haydel booted the point-after to hand the Hounds a quick 7-0 lead.

Stolen firearm recovered

Jeff Davis Parish Sheriff’s Office (JDSO) deputies responded to a call this past weekend that led to the recovery of a stolen firearm.

Parish officials opt out of burn ban

Parish residents can once again resume burning as Jeff Davis Parish Police Jury recently announced its intention to remove Jeff Davis Parish from the statewide burn ban. Although parish officials opted out, Louisiana State Fire Marshal’s Office has yet to rescind the ban that has been in place since the summer. Record crowds are expected to take to the air and roads for Thanksgiving

DALLAS (AP) — Millions of people are expected to hit airports and highways in record numbers over the Thanksgiving holiday. The busiest days to fly will be Tuesday and Wednesday as well as the Sunday after Thanksgiving. The Transportation Security Administration expects to screen 2.6 million passengers on Tuesday and 2.7 million passengers on Wednesday. Sunday will draw the largest crowds with an estimated 2.9 million passengers, which would narrowly eclipse a record set on June 30. Meanwhile, AAA forecasts that 55.4 million Americans will travel at least 50 miles from home with roads likely to be the most clogged on Wednesday.

State to be represented in Thanksgiving parade

NEW YORK CITY, NY. — For a third consecutive year, the Louisiana “Celebration Gator” will crawl the parade route of the 97th Annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City. Since 2021, coverage of Louisiana’s float in the annual parade reached nearly 2 billion people encouraging them to experience the culture, history, food and music that are unique to Louisiana.
