OHSEP to host storm spotting class

With on-going thunderstorms, tornadoes, hail and freezing weather concerning for both the National Weather Service and residents alike, the Jeff Davis Parish Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness (OHSEP) has agreed to host storm spotter training starting at 6 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 16. The class will be held at the JDP Police Jury building, located at 304 North State St.

Drake, Tigers plow through Indians, 68-36

LAKE ARTHUR – The Lake Arthur Tigers used a dominant first half of play to take a 68-36 win over the Elton Indians in a parish showdown at “Nooky” Moore Gymnasium this week. With the win, the Tigers improved to 5-4 on the season, while the Indians dropped to 3-8 overall. The Tigers used a 23-point explosion from Zavier Drake to help guide them to victory and led the entire way throughout the ball game. Breyon McZeal and Kyson Daniel also hit double figures in the win with 10 points each. Kelian Crosby led the charge for the Indians by scoring 13 points in the loss.
