In my past educational endeavors, I have encountered many writers — some of them I thought inspiring, others more confusing and a few more to my liking.

When I was introduced to the texts by Russian novelist Fyodor Dostoevsky, I was surprised and pleased that his writings were not nearly as complex as pronouncing his name. This novelist is probably one of the least known but most articulate writers of any generation. He caught me with his simple and practical advice, often given as “the voices of his characters.”

Bethel announces 2018-2019 Homecoming Court

Bethel Christian School has announced its 2018-2019 Homecoming Court.

Freshmen maids include Laura Myers, daughter of Dwayne and Julie Myers; and Hailey Swartz, daughter of Dayna Swartz and the late Daniel Swartz.

Sophomore maids are Gabriella Savant, daughter of William Robinson and Darla Savant; and Nicole Thibodeaux, daughter of John and Gwen Thibodeaux.

Representing the junior class are Gabrielle Daigle, daughter of Jerry and Nicole Vincent and Joseph and Tasha Daigle; and Mia John, daughter of Rod and Angela John.

McNeese releases President’s Honor List for fall semester

The President’s Honor List for the fall 2018 semester at McNeese State University has been announced. To be on the President’s Honor List, an undergraduate student must earn at least a 3.5 grade point average or better while carrying at least 15 semester hours. A senior eligible for graduation but carrying less than 15 hours is also provided that student was on the President’s Honor List the previous semester.

The President’s Honor List is as follows:

Students named to SOWELA Dean’s List

The following students achieved a grade point average of 3.5 or higher while carrying 12 or more credit hours during the fall term for classes taken at SOWELA’s Lake Charles campus, Morgan Smith site in Jennings or at the Oakdale site.
