The contest will serve as the league opener for both squads, as the Saints ended non-district play with a mark of 3-2, while the Dogs are currently sitting at 1-4. Jennings dropped a tough road decision to Sterlington last Friday night by a final of 45-14, while the Saints toppled LaGrange by a count of 30-6.

No Louisiana hunting, fishing licenses to be sold Oct. 10-11

BATON ROUGE (AP) — Work on the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries’ licensing website will prevent all sales of hunting and fishing licenses on Sunday and Monday, a department news release said Wednesday.

People who don’t have a license should buy one by Saturday if they plan to hunt or fish on Oct. 10 or 11, the statement said.

The work on maintenance and upgrades will prevent licenses sales through retailers as well as online.

Officials said licenses will be available again Tuesday.

Welsh will enter the contest with a 3-2 record following last Friday night’s tough 30-22 loss to Westlake. Notre Dame will come into the district fray with just one loss and four wins.

IOTA — The halfway point of the 2021 high school football season is in the books and teams are gearing up for the main course.

Indians welcome in rival Basile for Thursday tussle

ELTON – The Elton Indians will again get a chance to get into the win column tonight when they welcome in the longtime rival Basile Bearcats for another episode of “The Battle of the Bayou”. The longstanding rivalry match will be played tonight at 7 pm inside of Cleve Beard Stadium in Elton, and will pit a pair of teams still searching for their identities. The Indians have played good football all season long, but struggle to close games out in the end due to having so many players having to go both ways for an entire football game. Last week, Elton had Merryville on the ropes late, and led 15-14 in the fourth quarter. However, the Panthers rallied to score 20 points in the final frame to claim a 34-15 win. The Indians are sitting at 0-5 overall, 0-2 in league play, and are currently sitting at No. 29 in the Class A power ratings.
