For the second straight year, the Welsh Greyhounds have defeated the Many Tigers in the semi-final round of the 2A state playoffs and will be returning to New Orleans to try to win their second straight to a state championship.

The Greyhounds fell behind 14 points in the second quarter but rallied on the last drive of the half to cut the Tiger lead to seven. Welsh would carry that momentum into the second half and go on to defeat the Tigers and a 28-21 semifinal victory to advance to the 2A State Championship.

Lady Bulldogs cruise past Church Point Lady Bears

ELTON – The Jennings High School (JHS) Lady Bulldogs took on the Church Point High School (CPHS) Lady Bears in the Elton’s Rock the Rim Tournament Thursday night. The Lady Bulldogs would go on to a 38-29 victory over the Lady Bears.

The Lady Bulldog defense proved to be the difference all night long as JHS held the Lady Bears to only four points in the first period and the fourth.

LAFAYETTE - The Iota Lady Bulldogs ran their record to 5-1 Thursday with a 58-38 victory over Class 4A Breaux Bridge in the opening round of the Acadiana Wrecking Rams Tournament.

The victory sent the Lady Dogs to yesterday’s match-up with two-time defending Division IV state champion Lafayette Christian, which knocked off Scotlandville in their opening night game, 59-10.

The Lady Dogs got off to a quick start Thursday when they went on a 15-4 run in the opening frame. Kendall Miller sparked the outburst with a pair of 3-pointers.

Welsh Lady Hounds fall to Lady Gents

ELTON – The Welsh High School (WHS) Lady Greyhounds played their first game in the Elton Rock the Rim Tournament Thursday night against the Crowley High School (CHS) Lady Gents, who could not rally to overcome a 33-6 second period lead against the Lady Gents despite their best efforts.

The former Jennings High School standout Travis Etienne Jr. was recently honored by the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) by being named ACC Player of the Year and Offensive Player of the year. Etienne Jr. was named as a First Team running back in his second season with the Clemson Tigers.

SULPHUR – The Jennings Bulldogs and the Jennings Lady Bulldogs took the floor against Sulphur Tuesday night. The boys clinched their first win of the season (63-57) while the Lady
