The Welsh Greyhounds took on the Mansfield Wolverines Friday at Greyhound Stadium in the Regional round of the Class 2A playoffs. In what was a rather shaky game for both teams in all four quarters, Welsh managed to come out on top 33-16. The Greyhounds will face DeQuincy next week in the quarterfinal round of the playoffs at DeQuincy.

The Greyhounds won the opening toss and elected to defer. Mansfield received the ball at their own 20 and returned it to 39 to give themselves decent field position to start the game.

Iota Lady Dogs hold off JHS Lady Bulldogs

The Iota Lady Bulldogs went on a 10-2 run to start the second quarter that erased an early deficit and helped lead them to a 48-43 victory over the Lady Dogs of Jennings here Thursday evening in a battle of former district rivals.

Jennings (0-2) shot out to a quick 11-6 lead after forcing Iota into a handful of turnovers, turning them into points in transitions on easy baskets Kyla Chambers and Tyrannie Wither.

Lady Indians route 5A Barbe 61-28

ELTON - Following an opening win over 3A Crowley High School, the Elton Lady Indians made an even bigger jump in class successfully, as they defeated the Barbe Lady Bucs by a final of 61-28 at Oris Guidry Gymnasium Thursday night. With the win, the Lady Indians improve to 2-0 on the young season.

Elton raced out to a 14-3 lead in the opening stanza behind four tallies from Jameica James and Summer Ceasar, while Vici Woods chipped in three in the frame and Mariah Lemoine pitched in a pair.
