Jackets cruise to 49-15 win over Lake Arthur

KINDER - The Lake Arthur Tigers took on the Kinder Yellowjackets Friday in what many considered to be a premier matchup in the area. Sadly, the matchup did not live up to expectations, as the Jackets were able to easily roll over the Tigers, 49-15.

The Tigers got off to a good start early in the game, receiving the opening kickoff and then driving down the field, thanks to a 54-yard connection from Deuce Duhon to Tory Levias. The Tigers were able to get all the way down to the Jacket 10-yard line, however were forced to settle for a field goal, and led 3-0 early.

Powerful Pios blank Welsh 57-0 to clinch 6-2A title

CROWLEY - The Notre Dame Pioneers used an effective aerial attack here Thursday night to race to a 57-0 win over the Welsh Greyhounds in District 6-2A. With the win the Pioneers guaranteed themselves at least a share of the district championship.

It didn’t take long for the hosts to get on the scoreboard, as quarterback Ben Broussard connected with wide receiver Kaiser Lamb for a 55-yard score on the second play of the game. That was the way the game would unravel all night, as the Pioneers used big plays early in drives to get touchdowns.

MERRYVILLE - The Elton Indians suffered yet another come-from-behind loss to the Merryville Panthers almost exactly one year later, as the hosts rallied back from a third-quarter deficit to claim a thrilling 27-26 overtime win over Elton. Leading 20-7 with just six minutes left to play in the contest, the Panthers rallied to tie the game and send it to bonus football here at Merryville High School.

No. 22 Clemson start year ranked with high expectations

CLEMSON, S.C. (AP) — Clemson had plenty of surprises for opponents last season on the way to the NCAA Tournament’s Sweet 16.

The 22nd-ranked Tigers won’t surprise anyone this year with four returning starters and expectations to go even further in the NCAAs than last year.

Clemson coach Brad Brownell, who heard the chatter about his job security last year, said his team won’t worry about the positive expectations any more than the negative ones of the past.

Red Sox, Dodgers tied 1-all in extras in Game 3 of Series

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Game 3 of the World Series is in extra innings with the Boston Red Sox and Los Angeles Dodgers tied at 1.

Los Angeles had a chance in the bottom of the ninth Friday, but pinch-hitter Brian Dozier fouled out with runners on first and second to end the inning.

Boston manager Alex Cora made all sorts of moves, trying to help his team take a 3-0 lead.

Vikings rule Barr, Compton, Cook, Sendejo out vs. Saints

EAGAN, Minn. (AP) — The Minnesota Vikings have ruled our four injured starters against New Orleans, linebacker Anthony Barr (hamstring), left guard Tom Compton (knee), running back Dalvin Cook (hamstring) and strong safety Andrew Sendejo (groin).

Left tackle Riley Reiff (foot) was listed as doubtful after being held out of practice Friday. Cornerback Xavier Rhodes (foot) and nose tackle Linval Joseph (ankle/knee) were listed as questionable for Sunday.

Louisiana Tech ends FAU’s 10-game home winning streak 21-13

BOCA RATON, Fla. (AP) — J’Mar Smith threw for 217 yards and a touchdown and Louisiana Tech beat Florida Atlantic 21-13 on Friday night to snap the Owls’ 10-game home winning streak.

Louisiana Tech (6-2, 4-1 Conference USA), which is bowl eligible for the fifth straight season, scored two touchdowns in the final three minutes of the first half for a 14-10 lead.

Harrell has career-high 30 as Clippers rout Rockets 133-113

HOUSTON (AP) — Five games into the season is too early for the Houston Rockets to panic about their bad start.
