(AP) — ike Leach, the gruff, pioneering and unfiltered college football coach who helped revolutionize the game with the Air Raid offense, has died following complications from a heart condition, Mississippi State said Tuesday. He was 61.

MOSS BLUFF — The Jennings boys and girls basketball teams traveled to Moss Bluff Monday night to play Class 5A Sam Houston Broncos in non-district games. The Lady Dogs lost 46-37 to a good Lady Bronco team, while the Dogs picked up their first win of the young season with a 50-45 win.

Hounds rally past Pickering in overtime thriller

WELSH — Trailing 51-44 heading into the final stanza of basketball at Greyhound Gymnasium, Welsh rallied to outscore the Pickering Red Devils 26-19 in the fourth quarter to send Monday night’s non-district tilt into overtime. From there, the Hounds edged their visitors from Central Louisiana 16-13 in the bonus frame to claim a thrilling 86-83 victory. With the win, the Hounds moved over .500 on the season at 3-2, while the Red Devils dropped to 9-4. The Hounds were back in action Tuesday night when Opelousas came to town, and Welsh will also participate in the Mallett Builders Iowa High School Tournament over the weekend.

A strong second half push by the Lady Raiders left the Lady Cardinals short by nine points as they fell to 11-5 while the Lady Raiders move to 13-1.

MERRYVILLE — The Lacassine High Cardinals travelled to Merryville Tuesday night to compete in the Merryville High Tournament against the DeQuincy High Tigers. The Cardinals took the win in a second-half push for a final score of 61-50. The win moves the Cardinals to 11-7 while the Tigers sit at 1-8.
