Tired of watching hundreds of thousands of cars go by each year, in 1953 around 750 Jennings residents got together and put up money to build a modern hotel with 57 air-conditioned rooms, a “basement on the roof” and refrigerated garbage unit to cut down on odors. Today, five-story brick structure remains on East Nezpique Street as the Zigler Tower Apartments. The community hotel was reported as the high point of the “get-it-done fever that has taken hold of Jennings.”
