Jennings Fire Chief Lisso Lawrence, who has been on sick leave since suffering a heart attack in May 1987, has submitted his resignation to Mayor Jennifer Meyer.
Meyer said Lawrence's resignation was submitted Wednesday and became effective the same day.
Assistant Fire Chief Tommy Deshotel, who has served as acting chief while Lawrence has been on sick leave, will continue in that slot until the chief's position is permanently filled, Meyer said.
