The municipal election last Friday was a "bummer," and while it was generally a good natured contest, the spirit of rivalry ran high, and it was pronounced the hottest election since the birth of Jennings. The three-cornered mayoralty contest became much closer than had been anticipated by the average voter. John H. Roberts is mayor.

Jennings Fire Chief Lisso Lawrence, who has been on sick leave since suffering a heart attack in May 1987, has submitted his resignation to Mayor Jennifer Meyer.
Meyer said Lawrence's resignation was submitted Wednesday and became effective the same day.
Assistant Fire Chief Tommy Deshotel, who has served as acting chief while Lawrence has been on sick leave, will continue in that slot until the chief's position is permanently filled, Meyer said.
