WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump on Tuesday canceled plans to travel to South America later this week, choosing to stay in the United States to manage the U.S. response to Syria’s apparent chemical weapons attack on civilians.

White House spokeswoman Sarah Huckabee Sanders said Tuesday that Trump will not attend the 8th Summit of the Americas in Lima, Peru or travel to Bogota, Colombia as planned, remaining in the United States to “oversee the American response to Syria and to monitor developments around the world.”

NEW YORK (AP) — Stocks are rising sharply on Wall Street Tuesday after Chinese President Xi Jinping offered possible concessions in a trade dispute with the U.S. The Dow Jones industrial average rose as much as 500 points as investors hope the world’s largest economies will resolve their differences without a trade war that hampers global commerce. Xi promised to reduce China’s tariffs on imported cars and to improve intellectual property protection.

HOUSTON (AP) — Thousands of Houston Astrodome fans celebrated the 53rd anniversary of the now-vacant stadium with a last look inside before a $105 million redevelopment begins.

The Houston Chronicle reports Monday’s “Domecoming” party included displays of memorabilia and fans wearing jerseys and T-shirts from years past.

Harris County Judge Ed Emmett reminisced about being in high school in 1966 and paying $1 to tour the Astrodome, formerly home to baseball’s Astros and the NFL’s Oilers.

WELSH – During the month of March Mayor Carolyn Louviere attended to several issues including a sewer problem at city hall, the switching of the town’s water supply from an older groundwater storage tank to a newly built one and town electrical problems.

Early in March the city hall here saw an issue when the sewer line buried under it broke, Louviere said.
