Traditionally dogs are utilized as emotional support animals, but one veteran finds cats to be more his style.

Carroll Duhon, 49, and his emotional support cat Sammie live a quiet life in Jennings after the man’s years of service to the United States.

Duhon started his military career with Desert Storm in 1991 then came home later that year. He eventually returned to the Army and was stationed in Germany and other locations before leaving active duty after 11 years of service.

A little more than a year later he joined the National Guard and was sent to Iraq in 2004.

No one laughing at Reed after Masters win

AUGUSTA, Ga. (AP) — Patrick Reed got some laughs a few years back when he declared himself a top five player, with little on his resume to back it up.

No one is laughing now.

Reed’s breakthrough win in the Masters didn’t officially move him into the top five — he’s now No. 11 in the world — but it certainly moved him into the conversation when the debate turns to major championships.

Cubs postpone home opener a day due to snow

CHICAGO (AP) — The Chicago Cubs tried to play their home opener on Monday. It was just a snowgo.

The Cubs’ game against the Pittsburgh Pirates was postponed a day because of persistent snow that covered much of Wrigley Field, creating a scene more reminiscent of December than April.

The Cubs tried pushing back the scheduled start time by an hour, and workers used hand-held blowers to melt the snow on the tarp. But the accumulation and cold temperatures were just too much to overcome.

Giants open OTAs with Odell Beckham Jr.in the building

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) — The New York Giants have opened their first organized team activities under new coach Pat Shurmur with star receiver Odell Beckham Jr. in the building.

Speaking on a conference call Monday, Shurmur said he hadn’t yet talked to Beckham, whose name has been prominent in trade speculation in recent months.

Wyoming working former of defensive players at fullback

LARAMIE, Wyo. (AP) — Jaylon Watson had the luxury of watching and learning behind Drew Van Maanen last season. Now, he’s leading the charge.

Watson converted from defensive end/linebacker and fullback last spring and served as Wyoming’s backup to Van Maanen last year. With the team captain graduated, however, Watson now has to be the example for a new crew of fullbacks. Luckily, he’s been in their shoes before. Defensive end Austin Lopez and linebacker Jahmari Moore both moved over to fullback before camp to add depth to the position.

Slain reporter’s family says Syrian forces targeted her

WASHINGTON (AP) — Syria President Bashar Assad’s forces targeted veteran war correspondent Marie Colvin and then celebrated after they learned their rockets had killed her, according to a sworn statement a former Syrian intelligence officer made in a wrongful death suit filed by her relatives.

Canadian officials say body in bus crash misidentified

HUMBOLDT, Saskatchewan (AP) — Saskatchewan’s Ministry of Justice said Monday one of the deceased in the crash that killed 15 people en route to a hockey playoff game was misidentified, partly because the players all had blonddyed hair and similar builds.

The ministry said the body of Parker Tobin was mistaken for that of Xavier Labelle.

It said Labelle is injured but alive, and Tobin is among the deceased. The accident occurred Friday. Drew Wilby, spokesman for the ministry, said the error was discovered Sunday night.
