The remains of a Jennings native who was captured and killed during the Korean War have been returned to the family after being missing for over 67 years.

According to the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPPA), U.S. Army Sgt. John W. Hall, a Jennings native, was finally laid to rest in Houston July 6, after his remains were identified in Honolulu, Hawaii, in June 2017.

LA resident to host dog care class for youth

LAKE ARTHUR – A resident here will be hosting a class next week to educate local youth on the proper way to care for dogs.

Tammy Broussard, a local dog lover, will host the three- to fourhour class at her house at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, July 25. The class is being held educate youth on what it means to own a dog and the ways to properly maintain them.

Iowa tornadoes hit unexpectedly, causing damage and injuries

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Thousands of people were without power Friday after a flurry of unexpected tornadoes swept through central Iowa, injuring at least 17 people and flattening buildings in three cities.

The storms even surprised weather forecasters when they hit the region Thursday afternoon, causing extensive damage to a manufacturing plant and prompting the evacuation of a hospital. The National Weather Service said Friday that at least five tornadoes touched down.

Qualifying period for Nov. 6 election closes

Several more candidates signed up Friday during the qualifying period for the November 6 elections in Jeff Davis Parish. According SOS, all results are considered to be unofficial until the qualifying period closes at 4:30 p.m. on Friday, July 20. Final results will be published in Tuesday’s edition of the Jennings Daily News. The following candidates were signed up as of press time on Friday morning:
