Forget fulness can affect anyone. For example, few, if any, adults can say they have not experienced moments when they could not find their keys. And once the keys are found, people move on without giving much thought to why they did not immediately remember where they left their keys.

According to a study from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, housing is the greatest expense in dollar amount and as a share of total expenditures for households in which a person 55 and older is considered the primary owner or renter of the home. Total annual household expenditures, which were culled from the BLS’ 2014 Consumer Expenditure Survey, totaled just over $49,000. These expenditures included food, housing, clothing, transportation, health care, and entertainment, among other expenses.

COA offers variety of services

The Jeff Davis Parish Council on Aging (COA) in Jennings provides an array of services to local senior citizens. Whether seniors are looking to gather for fun or seeking assistance with serious issues, the COA is available five days a week to local seniors ages 60 and over. In fact, the COA can help seniors become familiar with its services through its Outreach program, which identifies potential clients and educates them on existing services and/ or benefits. Entry opens for LDWF Taxidermy Exhibition Contest

The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) will hold a taxidermy exhibition contest in April of 2019 as an opportunity for Louisiana taxidermists to showcase their work and help educate the general public on the state’s wildlife resources.

Berrios pitches Twins past White Sox 2-1 in 1st game

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — The Minnesota Twins’ pitching staff has finally caught up in the strikeout era, with Jose Berrios leading the way.

Berrios became the first Minnesota pitcher in eight years to reach 200 strikeouts, throwing seven smooth innings for the Twins in a 2-1 victory over the Chicago White Sox on Friday in the first game of a day-night doubleheader.

“It means a lot, obviously. That was one of my goals before the season started,” Berrios said. “That’s when I wrote it down, and I accomplished it and I’m thankful to God for that.”

Landowners hear the latest on cogongrass control at workshop

FRANKLINTON — A group of landowners attended the first of two workshops on Sept. 25 to hear about controlling the invasive cogongrass that has entered the state. Whitney Wallace, AgCenter forestry and wildlife resource agent, said the meeting held at the AgCenter Southeast Research Station was designed to make people aware of how difficult it is to get rid of this grass once it takes root. “Cogongrass came into the U.S. at Mobile around 1911 in packing material from Asia and has continued to spread throughout the South,” she said.
