Two Jeff Davis Parish teens enroll at LSMSA

NATCHITOCHES – The Louisiana School for Math, Science and the Arts (LSMSA) held its annual Matriculation Ceremony Friday, Aug. 31, in Northwestern State University’s A.A. Fredericks Auditorium. The ceremony welcomed 173 new students to the school, a group which consisted of six seniors, 54 juniors, and 113 sophomores from around the state.

Two Jeff Davis residents, Marisa Moreno of Elton and Matthew Naquin of Jennings, were part of that ceremony.

Drake Speaks to Rotary Club

The Jennings Rotary Club welcomed Charles Drake, local postman and guest speaker, at a Sept. 11 meeting. Drake is heading up the campaign to recruit sponsors for the purchase of brown bags used by residents to donate food items during the annual Letter Carriers Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive that is held each May. Caring Hands, located at 327 N. Main in Jennings, is the recipient of the food for local distribution to families in need.

Leblanc named Supreme Lady at annual convention

Jennings native Micaela Leblanc was recently named Supreme Lady of the Knights of Peter Claver Ladies Auxiliary, the highest elected position of this international organization. Leblanc won the election at the annual convention on Aug. 7 held in Anaheim, California.

The Knights of Peter Claver (KPD) and the Ladies Auxiliary is the largest and oldest continually existing predominantly African-American lay Catholic organization founded in 1909.

September Garden of the Month

The residential Garden of the Month for September is owned by Lovie Henderson, who lives at 1811 North Sherman. The Garden of the Month is organized and sponsored by the Jennings Garden Club.

Duplechain recognized for heroic actions
