Law needed to cut down on spectator tantrums

Hopefully Gov. John Bel Edwards signs House Bill 184 that is sitting on his desk. If he does, school and recreational athletic events might become a little more enjoyable.

The bill targets those who verbally and nonverbally harass school and/or recreational athletic officials on the job. These officials are identified as referees, umpires, coaches, instructors, administrators, staff members and recreation employees. The law would be violated if a person harasses an official during a contest or in the vicinity of the contest based on the official’s performance.

Weighing gun control and abortion

Dear Editor,

Recently there was a regrettable gun incident in Virginia. What was the first reaction from the Democrat governor: GUN CONTROL! This is the same governor that advocates for after-term abortions. I wonder why the governor wasn’t equally outraged and demanded legislation regarding the nearly 100 babies that were slaughtered in Virginia the same day and, for that matter, every other day.

“Dad, where’s Mom?”

In a two-parent household, that is often the most popular question. Even once the nest is empty, the adults returning to or calling the house often ask for Mom first.

I know my sister and I did. Once I was into early adulthood, it seemed every time I called home and Dad answered the phone, my first words to him were, “Hey, where’s Mom?”

“Why do you always need to know where she is?” he asked on several occasions. “Why can’t you talk to me?”

But if you asked people who live in New York, Chicago and L.A. what they did last night, 85 percent of them will say, “We watched television.”

Watching TV is our national sport. You may say, “Well, what’s the difference between watching a movie on TV or watching it in a theater?” or, “What’s the difference in going to the ballgame or watching it at home?”

CROWLEY – The Crowley Millers had their three-game win streak snapped Thursday night by a tough Opelousas Indians squad at Miller Stadium by a final of 8-5 to open district play.
