TEHRAN, Iran (AP) — Iran’s foreign minister warned the U.S. on Monday that it “cannot expect to stay safe” after launching what he described as an economic war against Tehran, taking a hard-line stance amid a visit by Germany’s top diplomat seeking to defuse tensions.

Extradition bill pushes Hong Kong to political crisis

HONG KONG (AP) — A highly controversial legislative measure in Hong Kong that would allow criminal suspects to be extradited to mainland China has pushed the former British colony to its biggest political crisis in years.

A march to protest the measure drew hundreds of thousands of people to the streets Sunday and stretched into Monday, with critics of the bill viewing the changes as part of a steady erosion of their civil liberties.

Jay Alexius officiating. Visitation for Mr. Broussard will begin at 3 p.m. Monday, June 10, and continue until 8 p.m., with a rosary recited at 6 p.m. Visitation will resume Tuesday from 8 a.m. until 9:45 a.m.

Burial with Military Graveside Honors will follow in Lakeview Cemetery under the direction of Miguez Funeral Home.

Funeral services for Mr. Jordan Jude Schexnider, 33, will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 9, 2019, in Miguez Funeral Home Chapel, with Pastor Josh Belt officiating.

Funeral home visitation will be from 2-9 p.m. Saturday and from 8 a.m. Sunday until time of service.

Burial will be in St. Anthony Cemetery in Lake Arthur under the direction of Miguez Funeral Home of Jennings.

Mr. Schexnider died Saturday, June 1, 2019 in Jackson, Ohio.

Recently, Hathaway Fire District 2 held a training session that taught the men how to handle and contain fires involving liquid petroleum gas (LPG). The class was part of required training the department needs to keep up to date with current times.

University of Alabama trustees vote to refund $26M gift

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP) — The University of Alabama board of trustees voted Friday to give back a $26.5 million donation to a top donor who recently called on students to boycott the school over the state’s new abortion ban.

Hugh F. Culverhouse Jr., a 70-year-old real estate investor and lawyer, has already given $21.5 million to the university after his pledge last September with the rest still to come. But in a news release last week, he urged students to participate in a boycott of the school.

US opens new mass facility for migrant children

The federal government is opening a new mass facility to hold migrant children in Texas and considering detaining hundreds more youths on three military bases around the country, adding up to 3,000 new beds to the already overtaxed system.

The new emergency facility in Carrizo Springs, Texas, will hold as many as 1,600 teens in a complex that once housed oil field workers on governmentleased land near the border, said Mark Weber, a spokesman for Office of Refugee Resettlement.

US, Russia blame each other in near-collision of warships

TOKYO (AP) — The U.S. and Russian militaries accused each other of unsafe actions on Friday after an American guided-missile cruiser and a Russian destroyer came within 165 feet (50 meters) of each other in the East China Sea.

The U.S. 7th Fleet said the Russian destroyer put the safety of the USS Chancellorsville and its crew at risk, forcing it to reverse all engines at full throttle to avoid a collision.

US employers add 75,000 jobs as unemployment stays 3.6 percent

WASHINGTON (AP) — U.S. hiring slowed in May as employers added just 75,000 jobs, a sign that businesses have become more cautious in the face of slowing global growth and widening trade conflicts.

The tepid job growth, along with rising pressures on the economy, makes it more likely that the Federal Reserve will cut rates in the coming months. Bond yields fell after the jobs data was released, signaling investor expectations for lower Fed rates.
