LDWF accepting bids for alligator hunting on state properties

The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) is still accepting bids for alligator hunting on Wildlife Management Areas (WMAs), U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) properties and state wildlife refuges for the 2019-2021 alligator harvest seasons. Applications will be accepted until bid opening at 10 a.m. on June 21 at the LDWF Lafayette Field Office, 200 Dulles Drive, Lafayette, LA 70506.

Enjoy the great outdoors this month

Mother Nature is being celebrated across the country, including in Louisiana, in June.

Since 1998, June has been recognized as National Great Outdoors Month. Those of us in Sportsman’s Paradise can certainly relate to the passion many share for what is outside the four walls of our homes and offices. The great outdoors are much more than a destination to us. Nature is part of our way of life.

Dear Editor,

We at Caring Hands would like to thank everyone involved with the National Association of Letter Carriers Food Drive.

Caring Hands received much needed supplies for our food pantry. We operate solely from contributions and donations. Thanks to our wonderful community and the hard work of our area letter carriers, our pantry is enjoying a much-appreciated increase in supplies.

Emergency alert systems are vital tools meant to warn the public that something bad is certainly on its way or might be on its way. Some systems go overboard, however.

The emergency alerts shared via TV or radio are not so much fear-inducing because of the information contained but rather how that information is relayed.

You are familiar with how these messages are delivered. A high-pitched, aliens-are-invading alarm suddenly slices through the air followed by a voiceover from a guy who sounds like he is hosting a static-filled radio show in the year 1920.

In honor of those who have given the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom, American Legion Post 520 held a Memorial Day Celebration and Flag Dedication Ceremony on Monday, May 27, at Marcus Cain Park. A new flag pole was dedicated in honor of Marcus Cain and other veterans who have served in Armed Forces, giving their lives for American freedom.
