WELSH – For those who have followed Welsh High School (WHS) football for the past 50 years, it’s not uncommon to hear one name tied to the program. Although he often jokes about his lack of a taller stature, Pat Deshotel is a giant as the written voice of the Greyhounds.

Deshotel just began his 50th year as a sports reporter for Jennings Daily News (JDN). His love for the red and black has long stuck out to the followers who read his columns and descriptive stories. He is the keeper of all of the records regarding WHS football.

Panthers QB Cam Newton remains out for third straight week

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — Panthers quarterback Cam Newton will miss his third consecutive with a foot injury when Carolina plays Jacksonville.

Newton is listed as out on the injury report for Sunday’s contest, along with cornerback Donte Jackson (groin), left tackle Greg Little (concussion), guard Trai Turner (ankle) and tight end Chris Manhertz (concussion). Kyle Allen, who is 2-0 as Carolina’s starting fill-in quarterback, will continue to start in Newton’s place.

The Baltimore Colts’ 23-17 victory over the New York Giants for the 1958 NFL championship, the first overtime game in league history, was voted the best game as part of the NFL’s celebration of its 100th season. A nationwide panel of 66 media members chose the classic over the 1981 NFC title match featuring the Joe Montana pass to Dwight Clark known as “The Catch,” and the “Ice Bowl” in Green Bay for the 1967 league title.
