Zachary David Blanchard, 23, of Jennings passed away peacefully on Oct. 3, 2019, at his home in Jennings.

Funeral services for Zachary will be held Monday, Oct. 7, 2019, at 2 p.m. in Miguez Funeral Home Chapel, with pastors Bubba McCann and Josh Belt officiating.

Visitation will begin at 3 p.m. today, Sunday, Oct. 6, 2019, and continue until 9 p.m. Visitation will resume Monday from 8 a.m. until the time of service.

Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The U.S. economy added a modest 136,000 jobs in September, a gain that managed to lower the unemployment rate to a new five-decade low of 3.5 percent but also suggested rising caution among employers.

The additional hiring and the drop in the jobless rate will likely ease worries that an economy weakened by the U.S.-China trade war and slower global growth could be edging toward a potential recession. The government on Friday also revised up its estimate of job growth in July and August by a combined 45,000.

NYPD officer killed by friendly fire hailed as hero

MONROE, N.Y. (AP) — As bagpipers marched silently to the beat of a somber drum, a New York City police officer killed by friendly fire during a struggle with an armed man was honored at his funeral Friday as a hero and a dedicated, compassionate professional who put his heart into his work.

Officer Brian Mulkeen, who was hit Sunday by two police bullets while wrestling with the man in the Bronx, was the second New York City officer killed by friendly fire this year.

Diahann Carroll, Oscar-nominated, pioneering actress, dies

NEW YORK (AP) — Diahann Carroll, the Oscarnominated actress and singer who won critical acclaim as the first black woman to star in a nonservant role in a TV series as “Julia,” has died. She was 84.

Carroll’s daughter, Susan Kay, told The Associated Press her mother died Friday in Los Angeles of cancer.

During her long career, Carroll earned a Tony Award for the musical “No Strings” and an Academy Award nomination for best actress for “Claudine.”
