Bulldogs’ ground game wears down South Beau

The Jennings Bulldogs moved one step closer to pulling to .500 with a 34-19 thumping over the South Beauregard (SBHS) Golden Knights Friday night. With the win, the Dogs moved to 4-5 overall, 2-2 in league play, and currently sit at around No. 24 in the Louisiana Sportsline 3A Power Ratings heading into the final week of the regular season.

The Dogs will have the chance to up their seeding with a rivalry win over the Westlake Rams this coming Friday night at Jerry Simmons Stadium.

Greyhounds claim Homecoming win

WELSH - The Welsh Greyhounds have suffered through a season where their offense has managed just eight touchdowns all season. Friday night the Greyhounds celebrated Homecoming by scoring six touchdowns on the way to a 42-18 win over the Port Barre Red Devils. With the win the Hounds move to 2-7 for the season and 1-2 in District 6-2A play.

Welsh Pee Wee Team Undefeated

Oct. 26, the 7- and 8-year-old pee wee football team from Welsh won the Pee Wee Superbowl held in Gueydan. The team boasts an undefeated season under coaches Robert Doucet, Beau Gaspard, David Gaspard and Cody Canerday.

Tigers shut out by Pios

CROWLEY - The Notre Dame Pioneers scored in every period here Friday night to claim a 42-0 win over the visiting Lake Arthur Tigers in a District 6-2A battle. The Pioneers are now 8-1 for the season, while the Tigers drop to 5-4 overall and 2-2 in league action.

“Notre Dame is just so solid at every position,” commented Tiger head coach Mark Deshotel. “We were able to get inside their 15 yard line twice in the first half, but that strong defense just shut us down both times. We were outmanned at every position, but I am proud of the way my team played despite the disadvantage.”

No. 4 Clemson routs Wofford 59-14 for 24th straight victory

CLEMSON, S.C. (AP) — Clemson coach Dabo Swinney believes it’s way past time to lighten up on quarterback Trevor Lawrence.

Lawrence accounted for four touchdowns, Travis Etienne ran for 212 yards in a record-setting performance and No. 4 Clemson rolled to its 24th straight victory, 59-14 over FCS opponent Wofford on Saturday.

Lawrence had three TD passes for a fourth straight game, leading the Tigers to a season-high 702 yards. And Swinney things people should start focusing on that instead of finding fault in Lawrence’s play.

Report: JDP job growth on the rise

Results released from the state show job growth in Jeff Davis Parish is still on the rise since the summer months.

According to preliminary estimates released this week by the Louisiana Workforce Commission (LWC), the unemployment rate in the parish for September was 4.4 percent, down from 4.8 percent in August and 5.2 percent in July. The unemployment rate for September 2018 was 4.6 percent.

CADA accepting applications for Adopt-a-Family program

Communities Against Domestic Abuse (CADA) has begun taking applications for its Adopt-a-Family program in preparation for the upcoming holidays. The program matches sponsors with families who may not be able to provide gifts under the Christmas tree.

“As the holiday season approaches, we’d like to announce the kickoff of our annual Adopta-Family program,” said CADA outreach coordinator Cynthia Petry. “Those who have received services from CADA in the past year are eligible to apply.”

Lacassine Junior 4-H sponsors Backpack Project

LACASSINE- The Junior High 4-H Club here takes on different service projects every month. In an effort to raise money to support their endeavors, club members have organized a fundraiser.

“Beginning Monday, Nov. 4, we will start a sweet potato and rice sale,” said supporter Kori Myers. “The deadline to make an order will be Friday, Nov. 15.”

A 20-pound box of sweet potatoes will be on sale for $20. Also available will be a 40-pound box for $30. For $5, a two-pound bag of rice can be purchased.

All funds collected will directly benefit the surrounding community.
