Another charging option opens in Lafayette

LAFAYETTE (AP) — A south Louisiana city’s first community electric vehicle charging station has been installed.

The Advocate reports the new station is located in downtown Lafayette.

The charging station was installed through the efforts of Bayou Electric Vehicles, Alliance for Affordable Energy, Lafayette Public Trust Financing Authority, JEH Solar, Toce Financial and donations from 25 contributors through a GoFundMe campaign, said Jeff LeBlanc, of Bayou Electric Vehicles.

Upcoming meetings focus on school taxes

The Jeff Davis Parish School Board could decide this week whether to call for a special election regarding two tax proposals in the Welsh-Roanoke consolidated district and a Welsh sales tax district.

This month’s meeting of the school board will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 19, at Welsh Elementary School. The board typically holds its monthly meeting at 6 p.m. at the central office. However, each December, the meetings are held mid-morning at a parish school.

Zeno out on $100,000 bond

One of the eight suspects identified for involvement of the murder of Dakota Chaisson, 22, of Jennings, is out on bond.

Da’Ren L. Zeno, 18, of Welsh, was released Friday afternoon on a $100,000 bond on charges of accessory after-the-fact second-degree murder.

Chaisson was shot and killed at a private party held at the Ward Event Center on South Main Street on Friday, Nov. 29. Chaisson suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was unable to be resuscitated at the scene by emergency personnel.

Six other suspects are still currently in custody as of press time on Monday.
