Lady Bulldogs face new challenges in 1997-98

The Jennings Lady Bulldogs have not lost a district ball game in so long that it seems fans have come to expect almost perfect seasons.

That may be one of the reasons head coach Shawn McNeilly wears a concerned look on her face. Then there are other changes that have put some question marks into the 1997-98 Lady Bulldog season.

Pipeline to the Atchafalaya from local field

L.F. Brenkenstein of the firm of Carnes, Bass and Brenkenstein, which has made millions of dollars out of its operations in the Jennings oil fields, is in the Crescent City says the New Orleans Picayune, occupying apartments at the St. Charles hotel.

LOCAL MAN LOSES PANTS

Evans McLemore of 527 Nezpique Street was an early caller at the Jennings police station this morning.

Mr. McLemore asked city police to locate his pants.

He told a local officer that he had left his trousers on the floor at the side of his bed last night. When he awoke this morning, the pants were gone.

Officer Carlyle Chesley was assigned to the case. He found McLemore's pants under the house at 527 Nezpique. But missing from the pant's pocket were an inexpensive watch and McLemore's social security card.

Oil museum set for 1984 completion

The Louisiana Oil and Gas Museum is still in the planning stages, but financing for the museum is one step closer to being a reality.

Governor Dave Treen has agreed to provide $1,000,000 from the state treasury on a cost-share basis for the museum, which is Phase Two of the Jennings Interstate 10 Park.

Rep. Jimmy Martin of Welsh told the Daily News Treen has agreed to provide the money if the remaining million dollars needed for the museum can be raised by other sources.

Robbed Again

With a night marshal and a merchant police keeping close watch, thieves again forced entrance into the store of Dr. GW. Remage last night and escaped without being seen with another large and valuable amount of jewelry. When the doctor opened the store this morning he found that the iron catch on one of the rear windows had been broken off and the window left open. Lying on the ground was a pick with which the thieves had forced open the window and thereby gained an entrance into the store.

Earl Robbins suffers hemorrhage of gums from tooth extraction

Early Robbins, Ward Two police jury member, is recovering from a rather serious hemorrhage of the gums following the extraction of a tooth. So profusely did the gum bleed following the extraction that it was necessary to take him to the parish hospital where he remained for several days.

The bleeding has been stopped, however, although Mr. Robbins is still weak from the loss of blood.
