FPD purchases police unit, surveillance system

FENTON - The village recently purchased a new police unit and surveillance system. The department is reporting a smooth transition from the old equipment to the new service.

“We have switched our camera equipment from Digital Ally to Watchguard,” said Sergeant Vernon O’Quinn. “Watchdog is everything they said it would be, it’s great.”

Coach O: National champ LSU ready to win more titles

NEW ORLEANS (AP) — LSU coach Ed Orgeron is already thinking about what comes next for his national champions. More specifically, who comes next.

Orgeron and the top-ranked Tigers completed a 15-0 season with a dominating and decisive win over No. 3 Clemson, 42-25, on Monday night.

Heisman Trophy winner Joe Burrow threw five touchdown passes and ran for another. But Burrow, as a senior and the likely No. 1 pick in April’s NFL draft, won’t return for another championship run.

To stop sign stealing, MLB could fight tech with more tech

PHOENIX (AP) — If Major League Baseball really wants to stop its teams from electronically stealing signs, it might consider fighting technology with more technology.

In a sport that’s increasingly driven by analytics and advancements, the majority of signs between players and coaches are still transmitted by lowtech hand signals that have been used for decades. Those hand signals are easily captured by the loads of video equipment around MLB stadiums that are used for television, replays and all kinds of stat tracking.

LSU rallies in regulation to take down Texas A&M in OT 89-85

COLLEGE STATION, Texas (AP) — LSU arrived to Texas A&M earlier than usual for a road conference game, thanks to the Tigers football team.

“We got here early (Monday) since they had canceled class, which is good,” LSU coach Will Wade said.

It turns out the Tigers needed the extra rest. Trendon Watford and Skylar Mays each scored 19 points and LSU defeated Texas A&M 89-85 in overtime on Tuesday night.

“We found a way,” Wade said.

A throwback candidate for a throwback state

The thing about Joe Biden, as the allimportant, ultimately trivial Iowa caucuses loom, is that hardly anybody seriously dislikes him. Not really. Oh, it’s possible to find dissenters here and there, mainly people who affix slogans such as “neo-liberal” and who think that people who disagree with their opinions must be stupid and immoral.

“Deplorables,” if you will.

If anyone was hoping for a calmer more peaceful decade, then surely by now they are disappointed. With just a few days into 2020, the major news story already is a drone strike and death of Iranian General Qasem Soleimani. Instantly political sides were drawn as Trump supporters praised the president’s actions as a strike against terrorism and protection for American lives. Trump detractors criticized the decision as dangerous. Presidential contenders have all denounced the president, calling him basically a war monger and a murderer.

Iran warns Europe as diplomat says officials ‘lied’ on crash

TEHRAN, Iran (AP) — Iran’s president warned Wednesday that European soldiers in the Mideast “could be in danger” after three nations challenged Tehran over breaking the limits of its nuclear deal. Tehran’s top diplomat meanwhile acknowledged that Iranians “were lied to” for days following the Islamic Republic’s accidental shoot down of a Ukrainian jetliner that killed 176 people.
